About the Program:

Pre-POWERSkate is part of the CanPOWERSkate program, and is designed for players in their first years of either ringette and/or hockey, who are approximately 5 to 9 years of age.  Players should be able to skate forwards the length of the ice, stop on command and skate backwards.  These skaters may not yet have the power and agility needed for the full CanPowerSkate program. CanPowerSkate is the only nationally regulated power skating program in Canada. It was developed by a team of hockey, figure skating and ringette experts to teach the fundamentals of power skating in a progressive and sequential manner.

Our Pre-POWERSkate program will help develop basic skating abilities for hockey and/or ringette players in a power skating-specific environment. Group lessons are taught by a Certified Skate Canada Professional coach, and will include balance skills, forward and backward skating, stopping, turning and agility skills.

Pre-POWERSkate has been designed to run concurrently with CanSkate sessions. Children who do not meet the Pre-POWERSkate requirements will be moved into the CanSkate session.

SRSC skating families can apply for funding assistance for skating programming through KidSport Manitoba and/or Canadian Tire’s JumpStart program, please visit both links for the online applications and to see if you qualify.
